Director of Strategic Partnerships
Uttermost Sports is a dedicated group of sports missiologists and cross-cultural communicators, teaming together with mission organizations and partners who use sport and also coordinate with multiple strategies—medicine, education, humanitarian, business, the arts, and others—to engage the unreached peoples of the world and bring them to Christ. The singular goal of the Uttermost Sports is Revelation 7:9 -- all Tongues, Tribes, Peoples, and Nations worship at the Throne of God.
Who We Are
We are Jesus followers, obedient to the Greatest Commandment and Second Greatest Commandment, and obedient to the Great Commission. We live a Missional Lifestyle with a Gospel Intentionality. We desire to reach All Nations for Christ. We go to the Least Reached in the hardest, darkest Restricted Access Contexts – Satan’s Strongholds – where traditional missionaries and ministries are not allowed or are severely restricted.
Our staff raise their own support, keeping organizational expenses low and mobilizing more resources to the front lines—the uttermost parts, the ends of the earth. Our international workers affiliate with a legitimate sport business as their means of access and engagement.
What We Do
Partnership for preparation/training and placement of workers among the Least Reached.
Partnership with mission organizations, churches, and sports ministries to prepare and send workers
Partnership with a Sports Development Company, to place workers using sport as a legitimate avenue for access and engagement in locations most in need of the Gospel
Our Focus
MIDDLE EAST / ARABIAN PENINSULA / NORTH AFRICA / ASIA
The Opportunity
This is an exciting full-time opportunity for a man or woman to serve and team with a special group of people. Living and basing out of the Uttermost Sports home base in central Oklahoma you’ll coordinate with top mission partner organizations and flagship churches; also, you will travel to attend mission conferences and participate in 1-2 international trips annually.
As the name implies, this person will coordinate and nurture our Strategic Partnerships—Mission Sending Agencies, Churches, Christian Sports Ministries, Campus Ministries, and Individual Supporters, as well as Mobilization of sports experts for international initiatives and guiding persons in their missions pilgrimage. Huge responsibilities; huge privilege.
The Big Picture
This is a support-based position that involves raising financial support for your salary, insurance, retirement plan and a portion of your travel. An amount will be agreed on for your target compensation. We will cover certain travel costs, but like the Founder, Directors, and Staff, you are a missions advocate, trainer, and mobilizer who raises your support.
To maintain a cohesive vision, culture, and coordination, our staff co-locate. For security reasons the city will be shared with serious applicants. We believe that our team is stronger when we are co-located, spending time together—praying, collaborating, discussing situations our global representatives are facing (some of the most challenging locations in the world), and sharing the workload in support of our mission.
As a staff member, you will work well with the team making “every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.”
Communicating with Partners, Prospects, and Candidates is the core responsibility entailing regular communication by phone, texts, email, video calls, and in-person visits.
You can expect to travel 7-8 days monthly to maintain, strengthen, and grow relationships with our partner organizations, donor base, and deployment candidates.
Shared alignment with our Ethos. ALL followers of Jesus are called to: observe the Greatest Commandment (Love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength), the Second Greatest Commandment (Love your neighbor as yourself), the Great Commission (As you go, make disciples), have a missional lifestyle, and live your life with a gospel intentionality.
Be a learner, team player, self-starter.
International missions experience is highly preferred but not required. You’ll get it with us.
The Director of Strategic Partnerships reports to the President and the US Director.
If you love Christ, love people, and love missions, you will love this job.
All SPORT WORKERS adhere to our Statement of Faith. Applicants in agreement with the Statement of Faith and related Policies on Sexuality, Sanctity of Marriage, Child Protection, Moral Conduct, and Best Security Practices are welcome to proceed in the application process and interviews by the staff and Board of Directors. It is our desire for you to be effective and fulfilled – to do a good job . . . and love it.
Key Qualities of the Successful Candidate
Character reflective of a healthy biblical leader; self-starting; strong organizational and time management skills; ability to think proactively, plan effectively, and follow up faithfully; able to manage multiple initiatives concurrently; detail-oriented; patient and persevering; committed and willing to follow through; an independent, life-long learner; both passionate and practical; proficient in technology; excellent people skills in a wide variety of situations; excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable in cross-cultural settings; professional in both conduct and communication; team player; collaborator with staff colleagues; manages sensitive information responsibly.
Don’t be a “Yes, But”
You might say “Yes” to the above strengths, characteristics, organizational mission and mandate, reaching the least and the last, and the Ethos and Guiding Principles . . . BUT, if your public profile blatantly trumpets your missionary affiliations, experience, or purpose in such a way that would compromise you and/or the organization, front line workers, and nationals we are engaging, then we would love to have you, BUT . . . .
(we would assist you in cleaning your profile and scrubbing compromising internet references).
Primary Responsibilities
1. Manage Relationships with Sending Agencies, Sports Ministries, Campus Ministries, Churches, Donors,
Prayer Supporters, and Christian Athletes and Coaches who will partner with us and support our work
among the Nations.
2. Enlist, coach, advise, prepare, and pray with candidates. Some will have the qualifications and
experience to serve with us; for those who do not join us, our investment in them is our selfless
contribution to the Greater Kingdom Work.
3. Mobilization for International Projects and Placements
4. Orientation and Mentoring of Prospects and Candidates
Office Hours and Travel
This is a full-time job, but there is great flexibility also: 2 weeks vacation (incremental increases with tenure), 10 paid holidays, office closed the entire week between Christmas and New Year’s Day. In the office there is administrative office work communication/collaboration/coordination with partners and other members of the team, keeping records of visits and contacts, planning trips, staying in touch with your own support/prayer team, etc. Office hours are flexible because, like most positions that involve nurturing and supporting people, there will be times when you need to be available outside normal office hours.
You can expect to travel 7-8 days monthly to relate to our partner organizations, donor base, and deployment candidates. The cost of certain assigned travel is covered by Uttermost Sports, whose operating budget is raised jointly by all staff members in the course of our duties and travels.
