Jordan is a country surrounded by conflict. Iraq lies to the East and Israel/Palestine to the West. The ongoing instability in the region is negatively affecting the tourist industry. However, there is an increased international presence in Jordan, since much relief work in Iraq is being managed from Amman. The country has a population of approximately 5.5 million of whom two to four percent are Christian. Visiting expatriate Christians have faced lengthy questioning at Amman airport, and at least one has been refused entry. Jordanian Christians working abroad have also been questioned when returning to their own country.
